Three COVID-19 vaccines are authorized or approved for use in the United States to prevent COVID-19.
Primary Series:
2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech given 3–8 weeks apart
Boosters:
Pfizer-BioNtech: Children and teens ages 12–17 years
Primary Series:
2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech given 3–8 weeks apart
Boosters:
Pfizer-BioNtech: Children ages 5–11 years
Primary Series:
2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech given 3 weeks apart
Moderna: Adults 18 years and older
Primary Series:
2 doses of Moderna given 4–8 weeks apart.
People ages 18 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should get a third dose at least 4 weeks after their second dose.
Booster Shot: People ages 18 years and older who received a Moderna primary series should get a booster. Some people can also choose to receive a second booster 5 months after the final dose of the primary dose.
J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine: Adults 18 years and Older
Primary Series:
1 single dose
Booster Shot: Everyone ages 18 years and older should get a booster. Some people can also choose to receive a second booster.
In most situations, Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are preferred for primary doses for COVID-19 Vaccine due to risk of adverse events
